As the trophy hunting season continues in Gilgit-Baltistan, Conservation and wildlife Hunza Nagar committee arrested three men for illegally shooting an ibex. Wildlife department officials in the region confirmed the hunting.
Muhammad shabbie, Hussain Ali and Bakhtawar hailing from hoper Nagar were involved in hunted an ibex of at least one year on Monday hoper Valley of Nagar district, Mr. Shabbir (Range Forest Officer Hunza-Nagar) told Mountain TV.
“This is an unfortunate incident,” Shabirullah, Range forest officer wildlife department , told Mountain TV “However, the silver lining is that the hunter has been sent to prison by a magistrate. Wild life committee hoper and magistrate of the area were very cooperative in the situation” said Mr. Shabbir.
The trophy hunting programme began in the 1980s. It is carried out under the Convention on International Trade of Endangered Species of Wildlife and is allowed only in notified areas of G-B in collaboration with the relevant communities.
