Approximately 11 people were killed and five others were hurt on Friday in Gilgit-Baltistan. The rain, which started heavy the area two days before, also triggered the mudslides. One landslide swept away at least eight people in the Niyat Valley of Diamer district, taking the death toll to 11 crossways Gilgit-Baltistan.
The landslides also sweep up away some parts of Gilgit-Skardu road, hanging up traffic between the two cities. Likewise, traffic between Gilgit and Rawalpindi was also hanged up after Karakoram Highway was damaged in Chilas and Kohistan.
As due to the heavy rainfall, water levels in Hunza, Ghizer, Skardu and Astore rivers have also increased to an alarming level, intimidating the lives and properties of those living in the low-lying areas.
