WAPDA’s powerhouse failure leaves Skardu in dark

power shortageBreakdown in the machinery of the powerhouse of WAPDA’s phase II has left Skradu in dark, reports said Sunday. Sources suggested that it would take more than four days for the powerhouse to become operational.

Phase I of the same powerhouse had already been shut down due to work at the gate of Satpara dam. The machine failure has reportedly created anxiety and concerns among the people of Skardu.

Sources said that students currently appearing in examinations have been severely hit by the power failure. Moreover, businesses have also been adversely affected and traders took to the roads, demonstrating against WAPDA and using the government to take notice of the issue on priority basis.
