Khowar Language and Cultural Researcher, poet, computer scientist, author of several books and freelance journalist Rehmat Aziz Chitrali with the collaboration of Khowar Academy, Chitral Vision, Wikimedia Foundation and Branah Company has recently invented a Virtual Khowar Keyboard for khowar language spoken in Northern valleys of Pakistan i.e. Chitral, Swat, Ghizer(Gilgit-Baltistan) , Sheghnan(Afghanistan), Chatur(India) and Xinjinag(China).
Rehmat Aziz Chitrali’s Virtual Khowar Keyboard enables khowar internet users to easily type Khowar online without installing Khowar keyboard. Mr.Rachitrali while interviewing to this scribe said that ‘’ You can use your computer keyboard or mouse to type Khowar letters with this virtual keyboard, there is no need to install this keyboard into your computer”.
He further stated that “clicking the Esc key on the Khowar keyboard layout above will toggle the mouse input between virtual QWERTY keyboard and virtual Khowar keyboard. The key will also turn on/off your keyboard input conversion. The Esc key on your keyboard has the same function”.
A Virtual Khowar Keyboard is the Khowar software that allows users to type characters. Normally a virtual keyboard provides on screen keyboards with clickable buttons to type characters. In this case, the typing is done using a mouse or a finger on touch screens, he added.
He claimed that his Virtual Khowar Keyboard can also use a physical keyboard to type characters. For example, the khowar user can use an English keyboard to type Khowar characters and the virtual keyboard software automatically converts the English letters to that of Khowar language.
Why use a Virtual Keyboard?
The computer or device you are using does not support your language
You are using a computer in a cafe in a foreign country
You are multilingual and you do not want or know how to change your computer settings
The characters you want to type are missing from your physical keyboard
You want to bypass a keylogger on a compromised computer
