Have you ever thought about the foods that can cause cancer?
We can start knowing about cancer-causing foods after we get to know the ingredients in our food that can cause cancer. Researchers have long identified that some of the cancer-causing ingredients are basically additives and chemicals we use to improve taste or color of our foods or to increase the shelf life of products.
The key to keep cancer away is to identify the cancer-causing chemicals in our foods and ingredients containing cancer promoters.
Studies suggest that cancer cells develop in our bodies, in part, due to sugar in our bloodstream. If you consume lost of foods loaded with sugar, you are filling your blood with the chemical required for cancer tumors to breed. So, if you want to stay healthy, you should eat low-glycemic diet, which means you should avoid the following foods:
- Refined Sugar
- Wheat grains (e.g. White flour)
- Sweeteners and sugary soda
Some harmless and natural food ingredients contain hydrogenated and partially hydrogenated oils- another danger. It is pertinent to note here that in order to increase shelf life of oils, manufacturers cook oils at high temperature in the existence of hydrogen and metal crystals to make them hydrogenated. The process increases shelf life of the products, but on the negative side it creates trans fats – a dangerous cancer-causing element. Trans fats also increase the risk of heart disease besides interrupting the system of metabolism in your body.
The acrylamide factor
Acrylamides- a cancer causing chemical- is not added into foods, but they are formed when we fry foods. Excessive frying/cooking of foods, especially starchy foods, leads to the creation of acrylamides, which plays significant role in causing cancer. Experts suggest people to avoid frying foods excessively.
Food manufacturers add sodium nitrite to certain foods to preserve them, give them a reddish color and make them look fresh. Processed foods especially contain sodium nitrite – a cancer causing agent.
Nitrites themselves are not the problem, experts say. People consume comparatively more nitrites from vegetables than they do from processed meat; however, when added sodium nitrite enters the chemical breakdown process in the human digestive system, sodium nitrite is transformed in to nitrosamine. Now that is where the cancer problems kickoff.
Experts suggest avoiding the following food:
- Processed meat
- Hot dogs
- Tinned foods
- Bottled foods
- Hydrogenated oils, white flour, sugar, and acrylamides
- French fries
- Chips / crackers / cookies
In addition to avoiding the above listed foods, what else can you do to reduce the risk of cancer? It’s simple: Eat lots of vegetables/plants and avoid using processed and deeply fried/cooked foods.
