The event ‘The Italian Science and Cooperation at the Shadow of K2’ has entered its second day at the Pakistan National Council of Arts’ (PNCA’s) National Art Gallery, Islamabad.
Hundreds of people attended inauguration of the event on Monday. Samina Baig, the first Pakistani woman to scale Mt. Everest, inaugurated the event. Reports say that the four-day long event involves the exhibition of photographs and screening of films, revolving around Filippo De Filippi’s scientific expedition in Central Asia from 1913 to 1914.
The photography exhibition has been dubbed as ‘Rediscovering the Abode of Snow.’ Sources said that a wide range of photographs pulled out from the original photo albums were on display.
On the first night of the event, two short films were screened under the International Mountain Film Festival. Four other films are set to be screened Tuesday night.
The Italian embassy officials told reporters that their government had decided to support a number of activities in the mountainous areas of Pakistan. It is pertinent to mention here that in 2004 an Italian Museum was opened up in Skardu.
