The holy Chinese are exempted from electricity load shedding in Gojal Valley

News Desk

The people of Gojal have lately been facing extensive power load shedding that has left the valley in dark and adversely affected domestic and commercial activities.

According to sources, load shedding in the valley has become rampant since the GB Power and Water Department decided to supply electricity to the Chinese construction workers’ camps across the valley. Provision of electricity- already scarce to meet the demands of the inhabitants of Gojal- to the Chinese camps has further increased the difficulties for the public.

The irony is that the Chinese camps are exempt from load shedding. This has created anger among the local people who say their power needs deserve to be treated on equal or priority basis.

According to one source, some of the Chinese camps evade their electricity bill payments with the help of some employees of the power department who are responsible to check the meters and prepare power consumption bills.  Sources said that instead of billing the Chinese, the billers replace the existing electric meters with new ones – reading of which starts from zero. The billers get big money in return, although meager compared to the actual bill amount.

People of Gojal have demanded that they be treated on equal basis and corruption in the power department at the local level be dealt with iron hand.
