An outbreak of diarrhea in Shigar valley has left dead at least seven people, reports said. Another 150 people are said to be suffering from the disease and have reportedly been hospitalized.
In the wake of rise in the cases of diarrhea, health officials have imposed a state of emergency in all public dispensaries and hospitals in the area. Hospital staff members have been ordered to provide 24/7 care to the patients.
Hospital staff has also been told to take extra care of people suffering from diarrhea.
The cause for outbreak of the disease has yet to be determined. Authorities said they are looking into the issue.
Reports say that the sudden death of seven people has left people of the area in deep shock. It is one of the major tragedies in the recent history of the valley.
It is pertinent to mention here that people of Shigar valley have long complained that hospitals and dispensaries in the area lack the basic health facilities and medicines.
Local people said they had notified health officials about outbreak of the diarrhea in the area; however, their concerns were not taken seriously.
