Gojal: Pakistan People Party’s candidate for GBLA-6, Mr. Zafar Iqbal, lashed out at Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf and Pakistan Muslim League (N) Saturday while addressing a crowd of around 600 to 800 people in Gulmit.
“What type of change is PTI intended to bring to the region?” he asked, adding “PPP has changed the region long ago by abolishing the Hunza state and giving independence to the inhabitants of the region.”
Mr. Iqbal went on to narrate historical events, saying rulers in Hunza State used to imprison people who would talk about their rights. Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto gave voice to the people of Hunza, he said.
“PML-N is not a democratic party,” the PPP candidate and former Managing Director of NATCO said. “They have been giving their ticket to only one personality for 35 years now. They are no more a party of the masses, but a single family,” apparently making a reference to his rival Mr. Ghazanfar Ali Khan, PMLN candidate for GBLA-6.
PPP leadership, including former senator Mr. Nayyar Hussain, former Minister for GB and Kashmir Affairs Qamar Zaman, and Speaker GBLA Mr. Wazir Baig, accompanied Mr. Iqbal to the region in a bid to campaign for Mr. Iqbal in the upcoming GBLA elections.
