The potential managing director (MD) of Northern Areas Transport Corporation (NATCO) has demanded a million rupees (Rs. 10 lack) as monthly salary, at least two vehicles for personal use besides a number of other perks from the government of Gilgit-Baltistan (GB), reports said Saturday.
The demands made by Col. (Retd.) Maqbool, who has been nominated for the highly desired, vetted and fêted post of MD NATCO, came as a setback to the GB government and left high-ups in a quandary. Mr. Maqbool was expected to occupy the post vacated after the retirement of renowned bureaucrat, Mr. Zafar Iqbal, former MD of NATCO.
Reports say that the GB government has now transferred power to the Chief Secretary, Younus Dhaga, to make a final decision about Mr. Maqbool, who was nominated from among dozens of applicants for the position.
It is pertinent to mention here that the post of MD NATCO is a grade 20 or 21 placement and the salary and perks tag on as per government policies and rules pertaining to the grade.
Final decision regarding the appointment is yet to be made. Mr. Dagha, who also happens to be Chairman of NATCO’s board of directors, is expected to make a final decision about the post during a meeting with the corporation’s board of directors.
NATCO is a government owned entity that provides travel services to the people of Gilgit-Baltistan. The corporation’s fleet of coaches runs between Gilgit and Rawalpindi besides dozens of other destinations.
