The road that connects Gilgit with Nomal has been heavily damaged and remains in bad condition, creating difficulty for the population of Nomal and surrounding areas.
Dozens of landslides over the last couple of years has reportedly deteriorated the condition of the road. Besides, relevant authorities have not paid heed to the issue, adding to the concerns of the local people. Reports say that the road has not been repaired in the last fifteen years.
The odd chances for travelers on the broken Gilgit-Nomal road suggest running into serious road hazards. It is pertinent to mention here that bad road conditions are a major factor in road accidents in Pakistan, especially Gilgit-Baltistan (GB).
Inhabitants of Nomal, who travel to Gilgit almost regularly, fear that if the road is not immediately repaired, it may lead to fatal accidents. They have demanded that the government of GB immediately take action over the issue.
