Gojal: In the wake of a heating-up political atmosphere, activists of the Awami Workers’ Party visited Gulmit Wednesday in a bid to campaign for their jailed leader Baba Jan’s election to the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) in the general elections slated for June 8 in the region.
The team of activists from central and lower Hunza met with local activists in Gulmit, encouraging them to continue their campaign efforts. However, the activists said they wouldn’t be able to open up campaign office in the region, citing financial constraints.
While addressing local supporters, the activists hit out at the government for jailing their leader. We cannot accept political victimization of our leader, said the speakers.
The campaigners asked the people of Gojal for support, saying Baba Jan has made sacrifices for the region’s people and has been imprisoned because he stood for the rights of the area’s people.
It is pertinent to mention that Baba Jan is contesting election from behind the bars.
