Police officials remanded over carelessness in Gilgit jailbreak

Anti-terrorism court on Tuesday remanded a police officer and a prison second-in-command superintendent for alleged carelessness which led to the jailbreak in Gilgit, Express Tribune reported.

DSP Rahimullah and subordinate Superintendent Arif Khan were remanded into police charge for three days by Judge Raja Shahbaz Khan.

“Both the police officials will be interrogated by a joint investigation squad formed by the government,” stated an official. The court also sent seven other prison staffers to jail for their alleged taking part in the daring jailbreak on February 27, 2015. The incident left one prisoner involved in the Nanga Parbat base-camp attack dead, while a fellow inmate was injured and caught. Two others managed to escape and are still at large.
