Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif inaugurated Gilgit Airport’s new terminal upon his arrival here on Friday. The prime minister then left to attend and address a gathering of Gilgit-Baltistan council, sources said.
Mr. Sharif was welcomed at the airport by the Governor of GB, Syed Pir Karam Ali Shah, and Chief Minister GB, Syed Mehdi Shah besides members of the GB Council and senior bureaucrats. The prime minister of Pakistan issued directives to relevant authorities to make certain proper maintenance of the airport and the newly opened terminal. He also advised authorities to help passengers.
Officials briefed him about the new terminal at Gilgit Airport. Mr. Sharif also visited different sections of the newly built building. The project has reportedly been completed at a cost of Rs. 148 million.
The prime minister was accompanied to GB by the Minister for Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs, Mr. Barjees Tahir, Marvi Memon and Capt. Safdar.
Mr. Sharif was also expected to pay a visit to the Diamer Bhasha Dam’s construction site.
