Pakistan disconnected from China via land route: Chief Minister, Chief Secretary rush to Gojal Valley

Gojal: Water level in the River Hunza has surged, inundating the Karakoram Highway at Waadkhun near the Pakistan-China border and cutting the only land route between China and Pakistan.

The situation prompted Chief Minsiter Mr. Hafiz Hafeez ur Rehman to rush to Gojal Valley on Tuesday to monitor the situation. The chief secretary accompanied him on his aerial visit to the valley.

Hot summer has expedited glacial meltdown in the Karakoram Range, increasing the water level of River Hunza to a very dangerous level. Link roads to several villages in Gojal Valley have already been flooded and destroyed. The roads to Shimshal, Misgar and Khunjerav have been engulfed, disconnecting the villages from rest of the region.

The local administration has declared Shishkat, Misgar and Shimshal as red zones. According to the tehsil administration officials and local people, water level in the glacial water outlets and the river has reached an extremely dangerous level and several villages are at risk of being flooded.
