Islamabad: Mr. Khayal Baig, father of renowned mountaineers Samina Baig and Mirza Ali, passed away at age 74 after a brief ailment in Islamabad on Friday. Mr. Khayal Baig was an active social worker, having served the volunteer corps of Shimshal Valley for six years.
“My father was suffering from respiratory problems that led to his death,” Mirza Ali told Mountain TV.
Baig leaves behind four sons and two daughters. His family members, including Mirza Ali and Samina Baig, left with the body for their native village Shimshal where the funeral will be held on Saturday.
Khayal Baig remained highly active in social works and development activities in the region throughout his life. He actively supported and promoted education and outdoor activities in Shimshal Valley for most of his life.
Baig was rushed to Islamabad about two weeks ago when he experienced breathing problems in his native town. He was under treatment at Ali Medical Center Islamabad.
