The Government of Pakistan and Government of Azad Jammu Kashmir have agreed to build a road between Azad Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan to link with Karakorum Highway (KKH). Construction of Neelum Highway will ease travelling and reduce traffic burden on KKH, source said.
On his recent visit to Neelum valley (AJK), PM Nawaz Sharif instructed authorities to conduct feasibility study on Neelum Highway; the highway will link Azad Kashmir with Gilgit-Baltistan via Shoter and Nori-Nard.
It is pertinent to note that there have been developments to construct a road between Shoter Valley and Astor which remained difficult to bulldoze a glacier at 16000 ft. above sea level, which left the project incomplete. But there is a jeep-able road which has linked Nori-nardi, Jhalkad, and Babusar to District Chilas GB.
Member of Azad Kashmir assembly, Mian Abdul Wahid has confirmed that the two governments have agreed to construct Neelum Highway. He further said such developments will be a great help for economic growth.
