National skiing championship starts at Naltar Valley

The national skiing championship started at Naltar Valley of Gilgit Baltistan. Secretary Tourism Syed Hadi was the chief guest at the inaugural ceremony. Secretary excise and taxation Akhtar Hussain Rizvi was also present at the opening ceremony. The skiing championship will continue five days and 10 teams have participated in it all over from the country. 44 athletes will participate in this championship.


The final will be on 12th January 2015. The initiative is been taken by PAF to promote tourism in the region of Gilgit Baltistan. This will also help the locals to participate in the skiing that will help them to represent Pakistan in the skiing championship in the world.

Located some 40km away from Gilgit city, the Naltar Valley is home to all skiing activity in Pakistan. Most locals of naltar valley cannot afford the expensive ski kits available in the market and many thus tend to carve their own kits from wood chopped from the pine forests nearby.
