Lawyers demand abolition of Ministry of Kashmir and Gilgit-Baltistan

Lawyers in Gilgit-Baltistan and Azad Jammu Kashmir (AJK) have demanded the abolition of the Ministry of Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir Affairs as it poses a key hesitant block to constitutional rights.

The demand was put forward in a combined declaration signed by Coordination Council of Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK through its first meeting in Islamabad.

According to a report of express tribune the body was formed few days ago by the legal fraternity in Gilgit-Baltistan and AJK to launch a combined struggle for autonomy and eradicate misunderstandings According to insiders, the declaration was signed by a variety of lawyers, with Gilgit-Baltistan Bar council vice president Advocate Shehbaz Khan and AJK Bar council advocate Raja Khalid Mehmood.

The ministry has denied constitutional rights to G-B and AJK, creating a strong sense of deficiency among the people. Even though the ministry has been frequently criticized, this is the first time lawyers from both regions have joined hands to demand its abolition.
