Lahore: Karakorum Festival came to colorful conclusion in Lahore today. The three days festival commenced on 28th of March 2014 and grabbed huge attention of domestic and international mountain and nature lovers.
More then fourty artists participated from Gilgit-Baltistan including singers, musicians and craft persons. Handicraft stalls by Karakorum Area Development Organization, local food by Pamir Food and other entrepreneur added more flavor to the festival.
Pakistan Ulema Council (PUC) Chairman Hafiz Tahir Ashrafi sudden visit to the festival was a pleasant surprise to the management and natives of Gilgit Baltistan. Ashrafi appreciated the effort and said it is a step forward to show the positive image of Pakistan,
Hunza Classical Musical Group performance attracted and inspired many people. The variety of dance from different districts of Gilgit Baltistan amused all those who attended the festival.
Amjad Ayub President Pakistan Association of Tour Operator and organizer of the festival talking to Mountain TV felt happy to say that the festival was a big success and it provided an opportunity to showcase the culture of Gilgit Baltistan to the urban people. He said that they will further try to make continuity of such events in other cities of Punjab as well.
The festival aimed to mark the 60th anniversary of the K2 first ascent by the Italian expedition in 1954 which promoting the achievements of the SEED project jointly financed by the Government of Italy and Pakistan. Gilgit Baltistan Youth Council (GBYC) voluntarily facilitated the entire event.
