Erosion of a water channel in Hassanabad, Hunza, has blocked the Karakoram Highway, hampering traffic flow on the highway besides posing threat to a settlement of 5-6 houses located below the KKH.

The stream of water flowing from the water channel across a mountain above the KKH is continuously carving pathways down the KKH. The eroded water channel is a source of water for Aliabad, sources said.

Local people complained that the relevant authorities have not yet seriously responded to the situation. They fear that if the water flow continued for an hour, the resulting land erosion would destroy the settlement currently at risk.

Meanwhile, dozens of vehicles carrying passengers have been stuck on the KKH at the blockage site. They are demanding that authorities respond fast and stop the water flow.
