HRCP and IPPS organize human rights awareness program for GB youth in Lahore

Lahore:Human Rights Commission  of Pakistan- Gilgit Baltistan in collaboration with Institute for Peace and Secular Studies (IPSS) Lahore organized a day long session for the awareness and advocacy of Human rights in GB. Purpose of the session was to understand historical and political situation of GB and issues pertaining to human rights violations The program was organized in APSS office Lahore where a large number HR activists from GB and Lahore participated .  HRCP coordinator for GB, Israruddin Israr along with other representatives of HRCP from various districts of GB as guest speaker highlighted main HR issues in GB..  A brief and informative history of GB was discussed focusing the trade route currently CPEC, its importance for the last many centuries and its impact on the political, social and economic situations for the last three centuries on the area. While giving the presentations Mr. Israr provided a list of HR violations in GB which needs to be addressed. Some of the important events been highlighted are

  • Right of GB in CPEC
  • IDPs issues
  • Sectarian violence
  • Minorities under threat
  • Rape and Honor killings
  • Trend of FIR against common people who try to rise voices.
  • Health and Education facilities, especially in Diamer
  • Land grabbing band payment of the compensations
  • Women harassments at work places
  • Women representation in public sector
  • Blasphemy cases
  • Child right violation
  • Rights of special persons
  • Control on media by State agents and its independence
  • Threats to HR representatives and activates

Furthermore, Israr and his team discussed the work they have done and are doing regarding Human Rights, the challenges they face and their expectations from the youth .They also shared some key successes of HRCP in the region.More than 2000 people have been benefited till today by HRCP through workshops and seminars. People are approached and aware through publications. People are trained and empowered to make their struggle in an organized pattern to get their rights

He emphasized  that, it is the need of time that youth from GB in cities must support the HR activists and strengthen them. At the end, question- answer session was held and the discussions made the meeting more productive, informative and successful.
