Gilgit-Baltistan Chief Minister, Syed Mehdi Shah, led some members of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) in a meeting with President, Asif Ali Zardari, in Islamabad on Monday.
Reports say that besides the chief minister, the GBLA delegation consisted of Wazir Baig, Muhammad Jaffar, Musa, Muhammad Ali Akhtar, Ali Maddad Shah, Engr. Ismail, Nasir Khan, Sheikh Nisar and Aftab Hayder.
Mr. Shah reportedly thanked Mr. Zardari for his role in the development and progress of GB. He also thanked the president for empowering the people of GB through the implementation of Gilgit-Baltistan Empowerment and Self Governance Order and lauded the bold steps and decision taken by the former Pakistan People’s Party government, mentioning the 18th Constitutional Amendment, provincial autonomy, Balochistan package, and renaming NWFP to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Mr. Zardari assured the delegation that his government’s policy of reconciliation would go on with the aim to promote democracy and help the evolution and growth of democratic institutions in the country.
