Gilgit-Baltistan CM pays tribute to Dr. Ruth Pfau

GILGIT: Chief Minister Gilgit-Baltistan Hafiz Hafeez-Ur Rehman paid a tribute to Dr. Ruth Pfau, who died at age 87, for her meritorious service to eradicate leprosy from Gilgit-Baltistan.

Hafiz Hafeez-Ur-Rehman paid a visit to the Leprosy Center in Gilgit on Friday.

He announced to upgrade Gilgit Leprosy Center to a 10 beds hospital and named after Dr Ruth Pfau.

He directed appointment of a specialist doctor and medical officer in the center and condoled the death of Dr. Ruth Pfau, besides expressing sympathies with Leprosy Center staff.

German-born nun Ruth Pfau, who devoted her life to eradicating leprosy in Pakistan, died on Thursday in the southern city of Karachi.

Widely known as Pakistan’s Mother Teresa, Pfau was eulogized by the prime minister and army chief for her contributions towards freeing the country of a contagious disease that can cause disfigurement.
