GB govt cautioned against TTP attacks on KKH

GILGIT(By Meraj Alam) – The interior ministry of Pakistan has advised the authorities in Giligt-Baltistan (G-B) to take extraordinary measures while warning of possible terrorist attacks by the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) at the strategically located Karakorum Highway (KKH) in district Diamer which connects Pakistan with China, an official G-B said yesterday.
In a letter (8-9-13-1-1803-09) sent to the G-B government, the interior ministry said that TTP has dispatched attackers to carry out subversive activities at Karakorum Highway and police stations in Diamer district of G-B.
It further asked the government to remain “extremely vigilant” and adopt measures to ward off such attacks.
Spokesman of Gilgit-Baltistan police Mobarak Jan told The Nation that Police Chief Zafer Awan will visit Diamer today to measure the security arrangements.
“He is aware of the possibility of terrorist attacks and assured that all necessary security measures have been taken to maintain peace in Gilgit-Baltistan,” he added.
Deputy Commissioner District Diamer Usman Ahmad said that the security measures were taken considering that terrorists had been carrying out attacks there in the past.
Gilgit-Baltistan police deployed on KKH have been put on high alert to maintain peace in the area.
“We are keeping a close watch on the situation and the security plan for the region is being revisited daily,” he added.
Meanwhile, march 17 2016, two members of security force and three militants have been killed during Target operation in district Diamer.
