Left wing statesman Farhatullah Babar has said that Gilgit-Baltistan can’t be the fifth province of Pakistan, saying Pakistan Peoples Party has already provided rights to the people of GB under the Gilgit-Baltistan (Empowerment and Self-Governance) Order 2009 “that has all the people need.”
Mr. Babar, who served as press secretary to the former President Asif Zardari, said the efforts of PPP have translated into more empowerment of the people of GB who are now having their own chief minister, governor and a powerful assembly. He said decisions are now being made at the grassroots level in GB.
Mr. Babar added that there are serious problems and hindrances involved in giving GB a constitutional status. He said “we have provided what we were able to provide to GB,” adding that PPP will continue to fight for the rights of GB.
