Militants who shot dead 10 foreign tourists and their local guide near Nanga Parbat base camp, Diamer (Gilgit-Baltistan) in June had been trained in Miramshah, North Waziristan, Home Secretary of GB Dr. Ata-ur-Rehman said in a briefing to the Senate Foreign Affairs Committee. Mr. Rehman also said that the militants belonged to the Pakistan Taliban (TTP).
Dr. Rehman also presented a confidential report before the committee that contained details about the attackers. The report also noted that the militants were involved in sectarian clashes in the country in 2012.
The secretary said that the militants received their training in Miramshah- home of the Pakistan Taliban in North Waziristan. It is pertinent to mention here that Pakistan Taliban chief Hakimullah Mehsud was recently killed by US drone strike in Miramshah.
Mr. Rehman also told the senate committee that 13 militants carried out the attack on the foreign mountaineers near the Nanga Parbat base camp. One of the attackers was from Kohistan, whereas the rest were from Diamer. They have admitted their involvement in the killings, the secretary told the senate committee.
