Hundreds of children took to the streets in Gilgit on Saturday, protesting against the molestation and brutal murder of 8-year-old Hasnain the previous week. The protestors demanded justice for Hasnain and strict action against the culprits.
The children of Barmas, Hospital Colony and Abbas Town started the demonstration, which started from Hospital Chowk and ended outside the office of chief secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan.
Addressing the demonstration, Shaikh Behram and other senior participants condemned Hasnain’s molestation and murder, saying the incident has come as a shock to the whole of GB. The incident has triggered greater concern among parents about the security and safety of their children, they said. They demanded severe punishment for the culprits, saying an example should be set for every potential and existing child molester.
It is pertinent to mention here that Shoaib, one of the three boys arrested for allegedly playing role in the incident, has emerged as a central figure in the child molestation and murder case. Authorities said his partners, Ibrar and Usama, were used by Shoaib to bait Hasnain to the scene of crime. Ibrar and Usama have also alleged that Shoaib is a sex offender and that he has also molested a number of other boys.
