Gilgit: Leader of the Awami Workers Party Baba Jan has file a petition in an upper court in Gilgit-Baltistan (G-B) next to an anti-terrorism court’s (ATC) verdict to sentence him, as well as 11 other persons, to life custody. Advocate Ehsan Ali, a higher-ranking lawyer, filed the appeal in G-B’s chief court.
On Monday, 30, 2014 Baba Jan appeared earlier than the court and willingly surrendered to the police. He was taken into custody and moved to jail. The Anti Terrorism Court had awarded life custody to 12 accused who supposedly vandalized property, assaulted public servants and go through arms and ammunitions from the police station in Hunza in 2011.
The Anti Terrorism Court has delayed the judgment on another FIR against Baba Jan. This FIR deals with an assault on an SHO’s house. However, Baba Jan has denied the charges.
Baba Jan is the sub- president of Awami Workers Party (AWP) which formed following three leftist parties compound in 2012: Labor Party, Workers Party and Awami Party. The remaining of those convicted are campaigners of AWP’s youth wing, Progressive Youth Front.
