It was the afternoon of July 4, 2013, when a terrain movement in Hunza brought down the Attabad village, upper Hunza. The landslide disaster left dead nineteen people and completely blocked the river Hunza and the Karakoram Highway (KKH). Moreover, the landslide lake created as a result of the disaster, extended almost 28 kilometers upstream, submerging major parts of five villages.
