Gojal Valley deprived of political rights

By Tariq Rahim Baig

Tehsil Gojal, being the largest tehsil of Gilgit Baltistan has an economic importance in the region. Tehsil Gojal situated in the most upper part of Pakistan, stirring the border with China is a business hub for Pak China Economic Corridor. The people of the valley are frustrated by the non-serious attitude of the political leaders despite of all the owing economic, social, health and many natural resources in the region. Gojal is one of the Tehsils in Hunza, where the literacy rate is observed above 95%. The ample resources in the valley also contribute open-handedly to the economic sector of the country. The  inhabitants went  through immense sufferings in the last five years, i.e. social, economic, psychological, physical , health, education etc, due to the Attabad landslide which blocked KKH, the only raod connecting the region to the urban areas. Now being relieved from the misery, the  people are expecting to return to the previous economic status. During theperiod of suffering, the Government didn’t take any substainsal steps for their economic revival. Many of the self-interested people and capitalists from different corner of the country are benefiting from the resources of valley and in return no contribution is witnessed for the betterment of the region.

The people of Gojal valley have been disregarded for their political representation in GBLA, since long by GB Government and the non-serious attitude of the local political leadership which has led to  political deprivation of the area.   Though offically, Hunza has been declared a separate District but the largest Tehsil could not be neglected for being the border area, culturally interlinked and business hub with China. The people of Gojal are in long waiting to be given representation in GBLA, but still the non-serious attitude of the political figures  have  dumped up the political demand. The question is not to grant a separate seat for upper Hunza Gojal, the matter stands with the rights of Gojal people. For how long the valley will remain in negligence? During the previous Government, the issue for a separate seat was neglected and regarded as biasedness. Before the recent general elections in GB, it was promised to provide one additional seat for Hunza district but all in vain. The time is up to stand united and demand for a separate seat for Gojal (Ayeenabad to Khunjerab). The largest Tehsil will be neglected by the GB Government until and unless a separate seat is not given. The inhabitants of the area have already suffered extreme but now no more to get into chaos of negligence. The people of the valley should now get united to demand for a separate representation in GBLA before the by elections at GBLA-6. The educated youth should get into the demand and play their role. The importance of the area should now be realized by the concerned authority and the rights of the people be granted. We request our Honorable Governor Mir Ghanzanfar Ali Khan to take up the demand of people of Gojal and help us in acquiring an additional seat for Hunza District
